Founded and lovingly managed by Carla Nitterhouse, Sugar Sky Farms is located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, and specializes in rare and exhibition-quality poultry raised with exceptional care and attention to detail.

Carla grew up on a dairy farm and is a proud fourth-generation dairy farmer. With over 40 years of experience with poultry, her lifelong passion for animals led her to become a veterinary technician in 1998. She is also a Certified Poultry Technician for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and serves as a veterinary practice manager. This combination of professional expertise and hands-on experience ensures that every bird at Sugar Sky Farms is raised with the highest standards of health, genetics, and welfare.

Sugar Sky Farms focuses on breeding a variety of exceptional and distinctive breeds including Ameraucana (with a special emphasis on Ermine Ameraucana), Salmon Faverolles, Ayam Cemani, Silkies, Opal Legbars, Black Copper Marans, Sultans, and other rare and exhibition lines. Each bird is carefully selected for strength, temperament, and adherence to breed standards, producing flocks that honor tradition while advancing the future of rare poultry.

In addition to her work at the farm, Carla owns several other businesses that reflect her creativity and love for ethical craftsmanship — Dollcake, her children’s art business, and Dollcake Skincare, a natural, Leaping Bunny certified, cruelty-free skincare line.

Carla and her husband Jason are proud parents of two children, who share in the joy of farm life and the family’s deep agricultural roots.
